GUCCI | A New Era

Being a former Gucci girl, I couldn't resist immersing myself in the world of the GUCCI Ancora collection, which graced the Milan runway last week. This show made a striking departure from the norm, choosing to showcase an array of relatively unknown models rather than the usual supermodels. Sabato, the mastermind behind this collection, had a clear mission—to rekindle Gucci's authentic aesthetic, which some argue had strayed since the iconic Tom Ford era. While traces of Prada's influence are discernible, there's an unmistakable homage to the legendary Tom Ford era—a chapter etched in fashion history for eternity.

It's paramount to remember that this marks Sabato's inaugural collection for the house, and it's off to a promising start. In an industry where creative directors often redefine a brand's direction after just two seasons, Sabato's journey is only beginning. The prospect of witnessing what he will produce in the seasons ahead is genuinely thrilling.

The show brought forth numerous captivating highlights that underscore Gucci's renewed dedication to its heritage symbols and precisely tailored designs. Gucci's enduring legacy has always revolved around suiting and timeless essentials. However, as time flowed on, these refined silhouettes underwent a transformation, often adorned with the iconic interlocking G prints. Somewhere along this transformative journey, the brand's timeless and classic shapes appeared to have retreated into the background. In this collection, I reveled in the resurgence of structured elegance, artfully blending both masculine and feminine aesthetics.

Among the collection's compelling elements were:

A subtly incorporated interlocking G print, lending a touch of sophistication to monochromatic ensembles.

A whimsical nod to the horsebit symbol intricately interwoven into the fabric of a playful playsuit adorned with interlocking G print.

Exciting reinterpretations of the iconic Jackie bag, graced with fresh chain embellishments and innovative designs such as the new bucket bag, adorned with the timeless interlocking G print in classic canvas.

The introduction of an iconic tank that has the potential to dethrone your beloved Loewe classic.

Skillful pairings of platform loafers with hot pants and pastel pink blazers, evoking a Gucci X MIU MIU dream girl (here for it).

This seamlessly aligns with one of the prevailing trends emerging from MFW: the resurgence of hot pants, eclipsing the traditional mini skirt on runways worldwide—a trend I wholeheartedly endorse.

While some might perceive this collection as more understated and commercially inclined, it unquestionably addresses a void that the fashion realm has long yearned to fill. Sabato adeptly synthesized the simplest yet sharpest elements from his tenure at various fashion houses, resulting in a refreshingly impactful outcome.

Additionally, the crystal fringe detail, as witnessed in both Prada and Gucci collections, is poised to become a staple in our wardrobes. It effortlessly elevates the allure of a well-tailored blazer to sheer chicness—an elegantly simple yet stunning addition to the lineup.

In summation, Sabato's debut collection for Gucci heralds a promising new chapter for the brand. With a renewed focus on timeless elegance and a respectful nod to the iconic Tom Ford era, it's evident that Gucci is on the path to rediscovering its distinctive style under Sabato's creative guidance. This collection has undoubtedly left me eager to witness the future evolution of this illustrious fashion house.
